Downstate
Racial Justice Committee
We believe that the needs of crime victims and the demands of racial justice are interdependent.
The Downstate Racial Justice Committee is the newest subsidiary of the Downstate Coalition. It was created out of Downstate's responsibility to consider all aspects of the legislation it chooses to support; including any potential racial impacts.
Quite often, bills that are passed in Albany have unintentional disparate effects on communities of color. Because Downstate exercises a strong voice in the capital, the Racial Justice Committee will examine legislation before the Coalition commits its support.
